RECYCLING FUND CENTER IN HOSPITAL
Making the most from waste

Abstract Problem
	Healthy workplace is the process to be health promoting hospital. There was average 1,800 kg of general waste per day in Buddhachinaraj Hospital which were not managed by appropriate waste management system and there was air pollution from burning infectious waste. Therefore, the hospital sought a solution by operating a recycling fund center.
Strategies for Improvement

Survey and analyze data in hospital regarding the quantity of infectious waste, management of waste system and knowledge of staff. Arrange the training program for staff, in-house campaign and team work in separate general waste using different color bins. Monitoring the program and evaluate the results.

Effective Changes

General waste decreased by 25% and infectious decreased by 40%. 92% of staff were satisfied with the cleanliness, number and bin locations. 66% of staff were satisfied with disposal of the infectious waste and bin locations. 87% of staff were satisfied with the reduction of air pollution from burning infectious waste. Moreover, teamwork for monitoring the development in the surrounding environment of the hospital was contributed.

Project Benefits

Recycling fund can decrease infectious waste and general waste in the hospital and promote participation among the executives and personnel which is the key to the success including creating better environment in the hospital.
